Goldfinch Cafe Mural
I was approached by Goldfinch Cafe and Seb + Fin Architects to produce a large wall mural for their new children’s art cafe in Bristol.
I was inspired by the theme of a bird's nest, echoing the name of the venue. A birds nest is a space that is nurturing, natural, safe, and handcrafted, which are values which will also be important to the cafe. To create the design, I researched what materials goldfinches use to build their nests: hair, wool, roots, grass, moss, and lichen, and used these shapes as the basis for mono prints. Using this hands-on craft process allowed me to create free-flowing and organic shapes that align with the values of the space.
I also designed and installed window decals on the upper and lower frontage of the cafe, on the lower floor, the windows slide back and the design interlocks to create a new pattern.
I painted the mural on site in summer 2023.
